I am trying to find a web-based XML Editor with at least syntax highlighting. Something simple in Javascript or Flash would be nice. The more lightweight, the better it would be.

I would like to extract the structure of the HTML document - so the tags are more important than the content. Ideally, it would be able to cope reasonably with badly-formed HTML to some extent also. Anyone know of a reliable and efficient parser?

I'm refactoring some old JavaScript code and there's a lot of DOM manipulation going on. var d = document; var odv = d.createElement("div"); odv.style.display = "none"; this.OuterDiv = odv; var t = d.createElement("table"); t.cellSpacing = 0; t.className = "text"; odv.appendChild ... using jQuery? I've tried with: var odv = $.create("div"); $.append(odv); etc. But I'm not sure this is any better.

Is there a way in CSS to make the background of an element semi-transparent, but still have the text of the element non-transparent? (Without separating the text and background in two elements positioned over eachother.)

Chrome supports the placeholder attribute on input[type=text] elements But the following CSS doesn't do diddly squat to the placeholder's value: <style> input[placeholder], [placeholder], *[placeholder] { color:red !important; } </style> <input type="text" placeholder="Value" ... still be grey (er, gray. whatever) instead of red. Is there a way to change the color of the placeholder text with CSS?

I'm making a website now and I am trying to decide if I should make it fluid or not. Fixed width websites are much easier to make and also much easier to make them appear consistent. To be honest though, I personally prefer looking at fluid websites that ... browsers you can hold control and scroll your mouse wheel to basically resize any website. So is creating a fluid website worth the trouble?
