I have a string like "040-286595" that I want to split into two strings: string1=040 string2=286595 That means the first string will contain the characters before '-', and the second string will contain the characters after '-'. I also want to check if the string has '-' in it. If not, I will throw an exception. How can I do this, please help me?

I'm looking for a simple commons method or operator that allows me to repeat some String n times. I know I could write this using a for loop, but I wish to avoid for loops whenever necessary and a simple direct method should exist somewhere. String str = "abc"; String repeated = str.repeat(3); repeated.equals("abcabcabc");

String first = "abc"; String second = new String ("abc"); When using the new keyword, Java will create the abc String again right? Will this be stored on the regular heap or the String pool? How many Strings will end in the String pool?

I am new to Java. I have a string like the following: str="4*5"; Now I have to get the result of 20 by using the string. I know in some other languages the eval function will do this. How do I do this in Java?

In Swing, the password field has a getPassword() (returns char[]) method instead of the usual getText() (returns String) method. Similarly, I have come across a suggestion not to use Strings to handle passwords. Why does String pose a threat to security when it comes to passwords? It feels inconvenient to use char[].
